"Through her art, she invites viewers to find respite and renewal amid the chaos and demands of daily life."

Amy Engel is a fiber artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. Inspired by a life shaped by the shores of Lake Michigan, the mountains of Colorado, and the Arizona desert, her work reflects the peace and harmony of life-giving water.

Amy paints fabric and brings her creations to life through both machine and hand stitching.

Amy's lifelong passion for art began with childhood Saturday art classes, continued through high school art club, and was further shaped by studies at Colorado State University in the 1970s.

Her fiber art journey began in the early 1990s with the design and construction of 1800s-era garments. She later gravitated toward quilting in 2010 and, after creating hundreds of quilts over 12 years, sought greater artistic freedom.

That exploration led her to fabric appliqué art quilts — and ultimately to combine her love of painting with fabric and thread — an approach through which she found her distinctive artistic voice.
